Tuscarawas County Jail Capacity

The jail's most current capacity source is the ODRC 2025 annual inspection. ODRC reported 112 actual general housing beds and the same 112 recommended capacity. On August 20, 2025, the inspection-day population was 95. The sheriff's annual statistics reported an average daily jail population of 105 in 2025 and 109 in 2024, which shows the jail often operates close to its recommended capacity even when the inspection-day snapshot was lower.

ODRC reported that the jail was in compliance with all 178 inspected standards, including 54 essential and 124 important standards. That finding is the best official source for current jail-conditions context. It also helps explain why capacity should be written as a managed operating limit, not as a promise that a bed is always open.

Tuscarawas County Jail holds local adult custody. Tuscarawas County Jail Visits

Public jail visitation is video-based through ICSolutions/The Visitor. Visitors must register at no cost before participating. The vendor page says visits can be onsite from video terminals in the facility visitation center or offsite from a Windows computer, Android device, or iOS device. Offsite visits are fee-based, costs vary by facility, and connectivity problems during offsite visits are not refunded.

Mail should include the inmate's full name and the Sheriff's Office address. The inspected official page did not list a book-in number requirement. It also did not publish a complete package or photo rule, so do not send non-letter items unless jail staff confirms they are allowed.

Tuscarawas Jail Programs

The sheriff also publishes an Inmate Work Program tied to jail-space management. Courts may sentence non-violent misdemeanor offenders to weekend litter details instead of jail time, and the sheriff says the program frees space for more serious offenders. The program works with the New Philadelphia Municipal Court and Southern District Court and is funded through a Tuscarawas-Stark-Wayne Joint Solid Waste District grant.

The county Crisis Intervention Team program is another jail-related local detail. The program began in 2016, includes sheriff's Corrections Division personnel among trained participants, and has training topics that include mental health, addiction, suicide prevention, developmental disability awareness, veteran crisis, victim awareness, competency issues, and de-escalation. Drivers from I-77 typically use the New Philadelphia exits and follow local streets toward Reiser Avenue SE. From US-250 and US-36, routes commonly pass through New Philadelphia or Dover. From Uhrichsville, Dennison, and southern county communities, routes generally approach through local roads into New Philadelphia before turning toward the jail campus.
